Sound Envelopes

The envelope of a signal is the curve outlining the extremes of the wave over time. In waves that have no attenuation, the upper and lower parts of the envelope are simply horizontal lines. However, in waves that do attenuate, the shape of the envelope is very important to how the resulting sound is perceived.
