The Gabor Limit

There is a tradeoff when trying to simultaneously measure the frequency of a sound at a given point in time. This tradeoff between time resolution and frequency resolution is known as the Gabor limit. The formal derivation of the Gabor limit is analogous to the derivation of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, so the two terms are often used interchangeably.
